Paleo – Day 3

Well, I wrote this once, was really happy with it, and somehow deleted it while realizing I forgot to start the broccoli and then the fire alarm went off…and I have had no sugar in three days.  Glory!

Today has been a bit of a bummer day.  I had to make some additions to my Paleo diet due to great success in dropping weight and it affecting my milk supply.  I actually am really disappointed, but Hailey’s best is the goal, and so for now, adjustments are being made.  We are adding in one serving of dairy and one serving of protein powder.  Hopefully these will help my body from going into shock and dumping my fat resources that are needing for milk production.  Some day I will get to do a full Paleo experiment.

With said additions, my goal has been to lose 3% of my body fat.  I had my body fat assessment done yesterday and wow, it looks different than it did in college.  So, we will see how these adjustments affect that goal.  But I am hopeful between the dietary adjustments and work outs that the 3% is attainable in the next 40 days. 

Today, I did finally get in my dream day of going to the market, picking out new and fun fruits, veggies and meats, and spending the afternoon cooking.  By market, I mean Sprouts, but I like the sophisticated sound of the market, in some sort of European way.  It has been good, but the salmon fillets still have the skin on them…that grossed me out a bit.  We are also trying our first Paleo desser: chocolate chip brownies.  I am sure the Paleo definition of brownie is quite different then mine, but I am very open minded three days into the diet.  So here is the menu today:

Breakfast – egg casserole, avocado, salsa

Snack – almond butter & grapes

Lunch – chicken with mango salsa and avocado

Snack – milk & larabar lemon

Dinner – Chipotle Orange Chicken and broccoli with nuts and raisins

Snack – chocolate chip brownies

And yes, I did burn the broccoli to rewrite this post…

    Kim – I was nursing Isabella when I started on Paleo & I did the same! I allowed myself cheese with my meals! The other thing to make sure of is that you are getting enough of the good fats – cook everything in olive oil, use guacamole/avacado, etc. Also you can eat AS MUCH of the “Paleo Legal” stuff as you want – don’t limit yourself!!! 🙂
