The Weekend in Review: Pie Time

This weekend the Gardiners’ enjoyed having GranMaMa & GranPaPa for a visit.  They have been on a 2 1/2 week road trip from Chicago through Tennessee to Texas and now headed back through Oklahoma and Missouri.  What a fun vacation!  This is definitely one of those “someday” dreams for us!  We had a great time with them and were sad to see them head out this morning.

They came, the way they usually come, bearing gifts!  Hailey got this new play mat to add to our ever growing pallet.  It is adorable and cuddly soft, which is perfect for her at this stage because she is sitting up very well, but still occasionally topples over.  At her six month well check last week the doctor told us her head circumference is still in the 90th percentile, so she really does have a lot to support up there.

On Saturday, we drove out into the Hill Country and ate at the much acclaimed Blue Bonnet Cafe in Marble Falls.  The food was fabulous and we ate tons.  At the end of the meal, we decided we were too full for pie, but could not miss out, so we ordered some pie to go.  And by some, I mean 2 pieces for each of us, which does indeed equal 8 pieces of pie!  I feel like I ate pie all weekend and I still have half a piece left in the refrigerator for sometime today (happy Monday to me!).  It was so good, that I have no idea which pie I would order next time, but am willing to go for Pie Happy Hour anytime anyone would like to go with me.  And Hailey might just decide she would like to go tomorrow!

On Sunday, we made a trip out to the Domain for a few things.  I got these super cute pear candles at Sur La Table for my fall decor.  I am so ready for the fall to be here, and with kids going back to school this week, it is just around the corner.  I have already bought Hailey a “My 1st Halloween” outfit, thanks to the best store in the world, Target, of course!  And am still on the hunt for her Halloween costume.  I just love the fall!  Also, worthy of noting, I have inquired about the Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks like twenty times already and the super fab baristas keep telling me they will be out in September.  They also keep telling me that they have already received the toppings and the syrup, but still cannot sell one to me because they do not know the price.  If anyone knows a way to get a Pumpkin Spice Latte in the back alley of a Starbucks, please let me know ASAP.  There might be some extra change for the tip jar of all who aid me in acquiring a Pumpkin Spice Latte in August.

One of the other highlights of the weekend was the wedding shower of a dear family friend, Amy.  I had to sneek out on Sunday afternoon for the shower and was greatly blessed to be with so many dear, old friends.  The room was filled with several amazing women that have been “spiritual giants” in my life.  These women have been amazing examples of grace and beauty.  They have taught me how to love my husband and children by having amazing relationships with their husbands and children.  They have taught me how to love the unlovely, how to smile and endure, and how to laugh and cry.  I am so thankful for each of them and the precious times we have had together.  They have impacted my life in such a deep and profound way.  I would be such a different person and in such a different place without them.  They also knew Eric was the One all along.

And the biggest highlight of the weekend was sweet lil’ Hailey’s latest favorite pastime: blowing raspberries.  She will play by blowing them back and forth with you, and it is simply precious.  And a little wet.
