A surprise gift

Since little Hailey’s arrival, or a few weeks after Hailey’s arrival, I have needed some new clothes. I really had not had the chance to take inventory of my closet and assess what is out or in, much less new or worn, since our cruise last winter.

My sweet mother-in-law was here to visit us over the weekend between business trips to Houston and San Antonio. And then, to everyone’s surprise, she got to return for another 2 days with us on Monday. So Tuesday, Mary Anne, Hailey and I found ourselves with an unexpected excuse for a girl’s day! And my wonderful hubby suggested it was time for mommy to shop for some new outfits. So off we went!

Of course, first stop was for food, and we had another lovely brunch at Kerby Lane, one of my all time favorites. Then off to the stores, or what turned out to be several hours in just one store. Mary Anne informed them I was instructed by my hubby to buy some new outfits, and the parade of clothes began. It was so much fun! The fabulous sales people, who could smell a desperate new mom in need of a wardrobe makeover, just kept bringing in more and more gorgeous things…it was kind of like a dream…other than my dreams of this did not include me breastfeeding my baby in the midst of the piles of clothes. Hailey did great too! We are training her already for the fun of shopping and clothes. It was pure luxury for me and was so fun to spend it with GranMaMa and Hailey. Both Mary Anne and I found ourselves saying throughout the day, “today is such a gift”. And it truly was such a gift.

And the next few weeks the gifts continue…time with loved ones abounds! Eric is home for a four day weekend which we will enjoy at home and at The Ridge. Next week we head to Chicago for a week to be with Eric’s family…Hailey will have her first airplane ride! Precious days with loved ones.

And today, I am overwhelmed by the many, many gifts I have received. I am thankful for the them all, but especially for a loving, heavenly Father, a devoted husband, a precious daughter, a funny dog, in-laws and parents that love, support and spoil us, siblings that continue to be friends as we grow older, and tons and tons of friends who have loved, played, cried and rejoiced with us. I am so thankful.
